For our honeymoon we are off on a fantastic trip visiting some of Africa’s most beautiful game reserves. Our trip will start with a flight from Heathrow to the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, where we will have an overnight stop at one of Nairobi’s finest hotels, which stands amidst lush tropical gardens with panoramic views over Nairobi’s Central Park and the glittering downtown skyline.
The next day, we will fly by light aircraft to the world-famous Amboseli National Park overlooked by the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. We will stay here for two nights in a luxury tented lodge. Amboseli is renowned for its big cats, so the chances of seeing lion and cheetah are good, and we might even be fortunate enough to spot – pardon the pun – the beautiful but elusive leopard. We may also see elephant, giraffe and other plains animals.
From Amboseli, we will travel on to a second camp close to the Uaso Nyiro River in the Samburu Reserve, where we should be able to see hippos, crocs and a great selection of antelope species and bird-life. After two days, we will then take another light aircraft flight to possibly the most famous game reserve in the world – the Masai Mara.
We will go on game drives in an open-topped 4x4 guided by one of the local rangers, and we will also have the opportunity to visit one of the traditional tribal communities that still thrive within the park. In the Masai Mara, we will again have the opportunity to see a host of wildlife including the big cats – hopefully including that elusive leopard – elephants, giraffe, wildebeest and zebra.
In the evening, after our last game drive, we will be able to join other guests around a huge log fire listening to the sounds of the safari park by night.
All too soon, it will be time to take the last flight back to Nairobi to connect with the flight home to London. What a trip...even Sir David Attenborough would have cause to be jealous. You can perhaps see why plenty of camera memory cards are going to be needed – along with a good hat, and plenty of suntan lotion!
