Like a lot of our honeymoon couples, Simon and Cheryl were looking to get away after their wedding to a period of complete rest and relaxation...and have chosen a destination where this is absolutely guaranteed !
Simon and Cheryl are heading off to the beautiful Islands of the Maldives in the Indian Ocean. If you are looking to get away from it all, and just want to focus on each otther's company, then the Maldives are definitely the top of the list.
Unlike many exotic destinations, the Maldives really do live up to their picture postcard image, with white sandy beaches, lagoons of tranquil, crystal clear waters protected by the reefs, where you don't even need a face-mask to see the tropical fish !
The resort that Simon and Cheryl have selected for their honeymoon is the idyllic Lily Beach Resort.
After arriving in the Maldivian capital of Male, they will take the short seaplane flight to Lily Beach, skimming over and around some of the other beautiful atolls on the way. On arrival at the small jetty where the seaplanes moor up, Simon and Chery will walk to their accommodation - one of the 119 villas spread around this delightful island...If they wanted to, this would probably be the last walk where they would wear shoes until it is time to walk back to the end of the jetty to take the seaplane back to Male at the end of their honeymoon. When people talk about the Maldives being a 'barefoot paradise', it is completely true. If they want to 'dress for dinner', then they will face the difficult decision of whether they continue to go barefoot - or put on a pair of flip-flops ! That's about as formal as it gets.
Guests staying at Lily Beach have access to a range of restaurants, swimming pools, a spa, fitness room, dive centre, tennis courts, and their own disco for entertainment in the evenings.
If Simon and Cheryl want a break from their own paradise island, then there are a range of excursions that they can go on. They could return to have a look around the bustling capital city of Male - which is home to 80% of the Maldivian population of less than 250,000. The Maldives is made up of many hundreds of coral atolls - many of which are little more than specs in the deep blue sea. Most of the bigger atolls have been turned into island resorts, such as Lily Beach, but a small number haven't been developed for visitors, but are home to small local communities, who make a living by fishing in the rich, deeper waters outside of the reefs.
On one evening during their stay, Simon and Cheryl will enjoy some sunset fishing, perhaps followed by a candlelit dinner in their villa.
Time takes on a different dimension on the Maldives and it wont take Simon and Cheryl long to adjust to the daily routine of get up, swim, rest, swim, lunch, rest, swim, perhaps an afternoon walk around the island (it takes about 20 minutes to walk from one end to the other), swim, rest, dinner, sleep. Unfortunately, all too soon, this hectic island life-style will come to an end, and they will have to put those shoes on again, take the long walk to the end of the jetty to board the seaplane back to Male, and from there back to home.
The Maldives are famed as the perfect honeymoon destination, and we know that Simon and Cheryl wont be disappointed with their choice.
