In Summer 2009, we helped pioneer a new short series charter service from Oxford Airport flying direct to the beautiful Channel Island of Jersey. When we started selling the flights, we had no idea how popular they would prove to be with our clients. The ease of flying from a small local airport, where you only need to check-in 60 minutes in advance; the simplicity of car parking only a few minutes' walk from the terminal building; and, most importantly only having to walk a maximum of 100ms from the check-in desk, via the executive departure lounge to the aircraft...All these factors helped contribute to extremely high satisfaction rates amongst our clients, and a very high level of repeat booking every summer since. Unfortunately, for operational reasons, we are no longer able to offer these flights from Oxford, however, our near neighbour, Gloucester Airport, offers a Saturday-Saturday flight programme, which offers all the advantages, and is only a short drive away.
For Summer 2013, the Gloucester-Jersey route will be flown using Manx2's highly-efficient, comfortable and very reliable Dornier 228, or occasionally a BAe Jetstream J31. Both are 19 seaters. Despite the size of the aircaft, you can still have a full baggage allowance of 15kgs hold baggage, and 5kgs cabin baggage - and all the flights will only take just over 55 minutes' flying time to get to both destinations.
Jersey, the Jewel of the Channel Islands is officially 'the sunniest place in the United Kingdom', with more sunny days registered throughout the year than anywhere else in the British Isles. This mild and pleasant climate makes it a wonderful place to visit at any time of year, even in the winter months. Obviously, however, if you can visit the island any time from Easter to Autumn you are certainly not going to be disappointed, and if you hit a great spell of weather in the summer months, you will enjoy temperatures and great beaches which will match anything that you will find in the traditional European hotspots.
Jersey is 9 miles from east to west and only 5 miles from north to south, but it still gives you a wealth of beautiful and different scenery - from the rugged northern coastline around Portelet to the beautiful beach at St Brelade's Bay, recently voted one of the best beaches in Europe. If you are looking for excitement St Ouen's Bay offers kite-boarding, wind-surfing and surfing.
The island's capital is St Helier. This offers a great range of shops, cafes and restaurants and is a great place to stay or to visit and explore. St Aubins is a charming little fishing port on the other side of the Bay from St Helier...connected by the island's only bit of dual-carriageway, measuring just under 2 miles, and one of the few roads on the island where you can travel at the maximum speed allowed of 40mph ! The island offers a wealth of places of interest to visit, including Mount Orgueil Castle, known locally as Gory Castle, the beautiful Corbiere Lighthouse, The Durrell Family's world-famous Jersey Zoo, and the fascinating Jersey War Tunnels Museum. Jersey offers a great range of accommodation from excellent value simple guesthouses to world classs hotels. The Villa Isis has always proved hugely popular with our guests, whether on a bed & breakfast basis, or with evening meals taken at the closeby Norfolk Hotel. Other St Helier favourites include the '3 Ms' - The Mayfair, The Metropole, and The Merton, with its famous waterpark. For the convenience of access to St Helier, but with beautiful gardens and an outstanding reputation for service, The Westhill Country Hotel has proved to be a great favourite with our clients. Other great choices include L'Horizon and Golden Sands, both of which overlook St Brelade's Bay, and if you are looking for wonderful food and the ideal hotel for a luxurious long weekend break, then The Atlantic Hotel is just what you are looking for.
