Last ski season finished in a blaze of glory with some of the best conditions reserved until the last few weeks - following a trend that has been seen in many parts of Europe over the last few years. However, this coming season 2012 - 2013 seems to be starting with fabulous snow conditions wherever you opt to ski - whether in Europe, North America and even Japan. With Easter coming at the end of March, the ski season in many resorts will be shorter than usual, which means that it is unlikely that there will be lots of late deals around for March, when you can expect the better weather and still great snow conditions. If you can only get away late in the season, then give us a call and we'll find the right holiday for you.
In North America and Japan - one of the up and coming ski destinations for British skiers - the snow conditions throughout the winter were terrific and in some of the US and Canadian resorts, they were still skiing well into May. With operators vying with each other to introduce new destinations into their programmes, the choice for skiers in the coming season could not be better.
The 'new' addition for the current season which is attracting attention is the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi, which will be playing host to the Olympic Winter Games in 2014. When President Putin persuaded the International Olympic Committee that Sochi should host the next Games, he promised a massive building programme bringing world-class skiing to this part of Southern Russia. The holidays to Sochi being offered this season will be the first opportunity to see how far the plans have come on.
But don't think that you have to be a skier or boarder to enjoy a winter holiday in the mountains - especially if you go to the right resorts in Austria and Switzerland, non-skiers can have just as much fun too. Call us now - tell us what you are looking for and we'll suggest the resorts that will most suit your requirements. One of the great delights of a non-skiing winter break is the chance to visit a city like Salzburg, where you can indulge yourself in their great array of cakes, pastries and delicacies, such as a 'Salzburger Nockerl' (see left), which ideally be enjoyed with a coffee or hot chocolate and a schnapps - no better way of warming yourself up after looking around the famous landmarks of this beautiful city.
